At first I thought this was a little bit of an odd album. It’s called “K”. Just a “K” on fire. I must admit I’m a little bit critial and prejudice, just by the look of an album cover. That’s why I think it’s important that I get to review the whole production, and not just the download. But what a surprise it got in store for me! I now understand the firey “K”.
Kyle Esplin is the Scottish artist, who never had a piano lesson in his life, but played fulltime professionally since the age of 16 around the UK, Europe, Canada, USA and onboard luxury cruise-liners. He wrote to me that the recording of this album took place in Germany back in 2012. But due to illness, the release was postponed. Now this year 2014, Kyle is slowly recovering and his album called “K” was released earlier this year and contains 13 songs.
I’m a piano lover, so this album is in good hands and I can immedately tell you, I love it. If you like Jerry Lee Lewis, then you will like this too. Actually, Kyle played at the 65th and 66th birthday parties of this rock and rol legend. Although I the album contains mostly the well known Rock and roll oldies like: Gene Vincent’s Be Bop A Lula, Ray Charles’ Mess Around and Jerry Lee Lewis’ High School Confidential it got me listening to it over and over again. Kyle is an excellent piano player with a strong boogie woogie left hand and a right hand that is faster than my ears can follow, but enough to keep everyting rockin’. That’s what the fire represents I guess.
His Mallorcan and Argentina musicians really add the bluesfeel to “Showbusiness” and “Just dropped in”.
Rock and roll, boogie woogie, blues, a great combination.
