The Test Pilots

the test pilotsI had some great guests over at my house, one was Tony, guitarist of the Swedish psycho/ neo rockabilly band The Test Pilots.

He visited my hometown Rotterdam in the Netherlands. A nice intelligent guy. Really interested in towns architecture, culture and history. And also a beer lover. We sat down at the Fenix Loods to have a beer tasting experiece. Small glasses of nine different beers.

Tony told me about his band with Matt on bass/ vocals and Pat on drums. He plays with Matt for ten years now, but with the Test Pilots for three years.

“We all came from a different background where I have my roots in blues, country and jazz but always been a rockabilly fan! Matt has influences from surf,  jazz and exotica. And Pat is a big grunge fan, so we all mix into what became The Test pilots. Strong influence from the scene has been The Sharks, Restless, Blue Cats, The Caravans and others. The future plans is to go on and play as much as possible and create new and exiting music!

The name Test Pilots came from Matt and I think it’s a name of a tiki drink”

Their first EP was called Deadly Rhythm. The guitar sound must be inspired by the Blue Cats in some way. It is pretty awesome!

Their second album: Parachute Party was released early 2016. 10 original songs which Tony and Matt wrote.

The psychobilly scene in Sweden is not so big, so they often play abroad like Germany, The Netherlands, Norway, Finland, UK etc. Their next gig will be Bedlam breakout ~ psycho / rockin /trash weekender in September, with Batmobile, Long Tall Texans and many more. Check it out!
