Luck 757 is a four piece rockabilly / americana / surf band from Hampton Roads, Virginia.

We’re talking with CORY SPIVEY (lead guitar/lead vocals) and DAN SPIVEY (rhythm guitar).

DAN SPIVEY: Every one of us were obviously born with music in our blood because that’s what links us together. I think we all started our love for music at a very young age with diverse influences. My father being a musician influenced me and I’m sure I influenced Cory. Angel Lopez (drums), being from the West Coast, he brings that whole sound with his rhythms and Sam Haga (upright bass) brought some jazz and blues influences to the mix.

Do you write your own songs?

DAN: Yes. I write most of the lyrics, sometimes using a line or even a riff from the other guys.

CORY: Our latest album, “Memphis Recording Service: The Sun Session“, we recorded in Memphis at the legendary Sun Studio. We cut the whole record live. No retakes or edits. It was an incredible experience.

What are your do’s and don’ts on stage?

DAN: We DO always come onstage prepared, knowing what we’re going to do and things we DON’T do is let on that anything is wrong, even when their is a technical difficulty

Do you like other styles than rock and roll?

CORY: Yes. Rock ‘n roll itself was derived from many different genres and we like them all. That’s what make it rock ‘n roll. Rockabilly just morphed from those styles as rock ‘n roll did from Rockabilly.

Is there an artist you would like to work with in future?

CORY: Way too many to name.

Where would you like to play, festival/? country/? event/?

DAN: As far as rockabilly festivals go, Spain’s High Rockabilly, Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekender and The Nashville Boogie and any of the big festivals would be our goal to play.

As far as countries go, we would love to tour Europe because our music is played there and we know rockabilly is still strong there. Australia would be a dream too because we are played on the radio often over there and are music is well received there.

Tell us a fun story about your band or gig.

DAN: While in Memphis, Tennessee recording our album at Sun Studio, we rented an AIrBnB, built during the Civil War period, with no modern conveniences (television, wifi, phone ect.) But it was great because we could concentrate on what we were doing. But there was a huge statue of St. Anthony (the patron saint of Lost Things) in the living room where Angel was sleeping on the couch. We thought it was funny since we’d gotten lost in Arkansas while searching for groceries so in the morning, Angel left St. Anthony his crucifix so that hopefully we wouldn’t get lost on the way home.

Do you regret anything? Missed chance, big mistake, …

DAN: We have had no regrets with this band.

What are your future plans?

CORY: We’ve been in the studio and we’re putting a couple of new albums together that we’re very excited about.

Finish this sentence: we will never ever….

DAN: Stop making music!
