Back from the abyss of glitter to ring in the new year!

Ok, so I’ve been out of the loop for a while and haven’t had a moment to breathe much less write. But with the new year comes a new start and so many new opportunities!

So What the hell has been going on?

Well one of the biggest shows my burlesque troupe (www.blackwidowburlesque.com) has ever undertaken happened in November! It was the first annual Spanksgiving! A burlesque festival and it was a huge success! We had a great show, a lot of fun, and are really looking forward to doing it next year bigger and better than this year! And….we totally created the best new holiday deity, the Spanksgiving Turkey! He wanders about the festival doling out spankings to all the good boys and girls!

I also had a great time performing with the new girls in our troupe and showing off one of my new numbers!

After Spanksgiving it was all about focusing again on my awesome job as a hair and makeup artist! The end of the year was a particularly diverse time. I have started a new business, called Silver Screen Pinups, with my favorite photographer, Steve DeMent.  Be sure to add us on facebook at www.facebook.com/silverscreenpinups. We’re both huge lovers of everything pinup and are so excited to start this new all inclusive pinup photography business and bring great pinup photo packages for everyone to Austin and beyond! Here are a few of my favorite shots we’ve done the past few months:

Betty Bombshell giving us a little tease!

Colleen doing some Gil Elvgren inspired shots!

Jolyn giving us her best Marilyn!

RaRa Roxette going vintage glam!

It’s really excited getting to work with such a talented photographer and doing so many great retro looks on women from all walks of life. I’m really looking forward to expanding this business in the new year!

I’ve also been keeping busy with various other shoots from high fashion photoshoots to horror films, and closed out the year doing wigs for the Austin production of The Radio City Christmas Spectacular with the world famous Rockettes! It was a really fun production to work with, and came with the added bonus of having their shoe expert, Stephanie, help me out by stretching my new Bordello sequined t-straps to fit my foot perfectly.

Resolutions, eh?

So you can see that I had a perfectly good reason for being gone from writing-land for so long, but in the new year one of my resolutions is to try and write more frequently, and I think I should throw in a couple more for good measure!

1. Write more often! Please send me any of your retro hair and makeup questions to bloodandglittermakeup@gmail.com, and be sure to stay updated on my shenanigans at my business website, www.wendymichellesanders.com.

2. Work on really expanding the burlesque career this year as well as the professional one! This year I plan to work on bigger and better original numbers, and to apply to more festivals and put on my traveling shoes a bit; like my facebook fan page to keep up with the tassel twirling fun!

3. Move to a bigger apartment. Seriously! The feathers and sequins have taken over and it’s starting to look like a really spangly episode of hoarders in here…..need more space!!!

4. No more fast food! It’s really hard to eat healthy when you’re in a constantly moving profession like mine, but I’m definately cutting out the fast food before it pickles my liver 😛

5. Have more fun!!! Learn to relax and enjoy life a little more; after all I have a pretty fun job and I shouldn’t forget that!
